Founded in 1898, we are a 100% employee‑owned, award‑winning engineering, architecture, construction, environmental, and consulting firm with offices and project teams nationwide. Our mission is simple: make our clients successful.

As we begin building our presence in Boise, our Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Global Practice is looking for a Transmission Department Manager who's ready to help shape that growth. This leader will set the strategic direction for our Transmission business, guide a high‑performing team, and drive strong project delivery across the region.

Key Responsibilities

People Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and designers, fostering a collaborative and high‑performance culture.

  • Partner with HR and Recruiting to attract top talent and support onboarding for new hires.

  • Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging while reinforcing Burns & McDonnell's MacCulture values.

  • Conduct performance reviews, support career development, and strengthen technical and EPC delivery capabilities.

  • Collaborate with global engineering resources, including Burns & McDonnell India, to support project needs.

Market Strategy & Growth

  • Shape and execute the strategic plan for Transmission in the Boise region, positioning Burns & McDonnell for long‑term success.

  • Understand industry trends and align service offerings with market needs.

  • Partner with Marketing, Account Management, and Business Development to pursue opportunities and strengthen client relationships.

  • Support proposal development, pricing strategies, and pursuit decisions.

  • Drive cross‑selling and collaboration across Global Practices and regions.

Project Execution & Technical Excellence

  • Serve as a senior technical advisor on transmission projects.

  • Monitor project performance to ensure quality, schedule, and budget expectations are met.

  • Support QA/QC processes and adherence to the T&D Quality Management System.

  • Champion innovative tools, technologies, and workflows to improve project delivery.

  • Coordinate with cross‑regional and global teams to optimize resources and technical direction.

Cross‑Regional Collaboration

  • Align with national and regional leaders on standards, tools, and best practices.

  • Support shared pursuits and client work across T&D departments and offices.

  • Reinforce a "One Burns & McDonnell" approach to delivery and client service.

Financial Performance

  • Ensure sustainable, profitable growth through effective staffing, utilization, and workload management.

  • Monitor financial performance, chargeability, and overhead investment.

  • Lead continuous improvement efforts to enhance efficiency and consistency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, construction or related degree from an accredited program and 7 years related professional experience in design and/or project management is required.

  • Previous leadership and/or management experience is preferable.

  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.

  • Position requires the ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.

  • Must possess strong project management skills and a strategic perspective.

  • Must be expert in the use of computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

This job posting will remain open a minimum of 72 hours and on an ongoing basis until filled.
