Job Title: Transmission Engineer

Job Description

As a Transmission Line Project Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping how electricity is generated, transmitted, and delivered as global energy demands grow. You will join a nationally recognized Power Delivery team that has been at the forefront of grid transformation for more than a century, working side-by-side with experienced engineers and scientists to design reliable, resilient, and sustainable high-voltage transmission systems. This role offers the opportunity to take your career to the next level by independently leading complex transmission line design projects, mentoring junior staff, and contributing directly to critical infrastructure that helps communities thrive and industries expand.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare all technical aspects and deliverables associated with conceptual and detailed high-voltage transmission line designs of increasing complexity, using PLS-CADD and foundation design software such as L-Pile and Caisson.
  • Coordinate the preparation of construction release packages for high-voltage transmission lines, including plans and profiles, structure load trees, structure assemblies and details, stringing charts, foundation schedules and details, and bills of material.
  • Assign tasks and provide clear guidance to junior team members, including EITs and Designers, while coordinating and overseeing quality control reviews of their work.
  • Identify and implement learning opportunities for EITs and Designers through job shadowing, targeted project task assignments, technical "show and tell" sessions, lunch-and-learn events, and general knowledge sharing.
  • Perform quality control reviews of transmission line projects developed by other teams as needed to ensure accuracy, safety, and compliance with standards.
  • Provide engineering input on specific project design issues and questions, offering practical solutions and recommendations based on sound engineering judgment.
  • Conduct engineering analyses to develop, compare, and refine design options for transmission line projects.
  • Assist with the preparation of project cost estimates and technical specifications to support proposals and execution planning.
  • Attend client and stakeholder meetings, actively participate in discussions, and lead design review sessions to present and explain transmission line design concepts and decisions.
  • Contribute to the development of project man-hour estimates and task schedules, helping to plan and forecast resource needs and timelines.
  • Effectively manage multiple tasks across multiple projects, maintaining awareness of schedule and budget constraints and proactively addressing issues that may impact project delivery.
  • Perform site visits during design, construction, and as-built phases of projects, including participating in field reviews and construction observation to verify design implementation and address field conditions.
  • Support substation and power distribution-related work as needed, including coordination with substation engineering, relay protection, and utility design teams.
  • Collaborate with project management and power delivery teams to ensure seamless execution of engineering projects within the Power Market Sector.
  • Actively contribute to a collaborative, employee-owned culture by engaging with colleagues, sharing expertise, and supporting continuous improvement across the team.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor"s degree in Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Previous experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
  • Demonstrated experience in high-voltage transmission line engineering and design.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for documentation, analysis, and communication.
  • Experience using standard Power Market Sector design software such as PLS-CADD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit.
  • Strong understanding of power delivery, utility design, and electrical design principles.
  • Ability to manage multiple engineering tasks and projects while maintaining schedule and budget awareness.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams.
  • Commitment to being an active participant in a collaborative, employee-owned culture.
  • Ability to mentor and guide less-experienced engineers and designers, supporting their technical development.
  • Experience with substation design, substation engineering, and power distribution concepts.
  • Knowledge of relay protection and related electrical engineering practices.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Exposure to developing project man-hour estimates, cost estimates, and schedules.
  • Prior experience in foundation design using software such as L-Pile and Caisson.
  • Experience working with renewable energy developers and/or supporting the interconnection of renewable generation resources.
  • Experience in engineering project coordination within transmission and power delivery environments.
  • Background in high-voltage transmission and utility-scale electrical design.
  • Ability and desire to continue learning, growing, and taking on increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that support mentoring junior staff and fostering a collaborative team environment.
