Description
Summary
A Transmission Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical transmission systems and related equipment used to deliver electricity safely and efficiently. This role involves working with high-voltage cables, communication lines, utility poles, and transmission equipment to ensure uninterrupted electrical service. Transmission Technicians use specialized tools and testing equipment to identify faults, restore damaged systems, and maintain the reliability and performance of electrical infrastructure.
Job Responsibilities
Travel to customer and job site locations to install, inspect, maintain, and repair electrical transmission equipment and accessories
Inspect, test, and evaluate electrical lines and cables to identify faults, service interruptions, or transmission issues
Record and analyze test results to determine transmission characteristics and recommend repairs or upgrades
Splice and connect electrical cables using hand tools, epoxy materials, and mechanical equipment
Measure signal and transmission strength at utility poles and equipment stations using electronic testing devices
Install, connect, test, and adjust transmission systems and related equipment for new and existing services
Apply insulation materials over conductors and properly seal cable splices with moisture-resistant coverings to prevent damage and corrosion
Install and maintain amplifiers, repeaters, and additional transmission equipment to ensure strong and reliable communication and electrical signals
Follow all company safety procedures, electrical codes, and industry regulations while working in potentially hazardous environments
Troubleshoot system malfunctions and respond promptly to emergency repair situations to minimize service disruptions
Requirements
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required
8–10 years of related experience in transmission systems, electrical maintenance, or a similar technical role preferred
Previous hands-on experience working with electrical cables, utility systems, or transmission equipment
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and customer service abilities
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and effectively manage time
Basic knowledge of engineering principles, electrical systems, and transmission technology
Familiarity with safety procedures, testing equipment, and industry standards related to electrical transmission systems
