Duties Description Under the supervision of the Mapping Technologist 3, or their designee, a TCI will be assigned to assist with the following duties:

NOTE: Degrees and/or college credit must have been awarded by a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the NYS Education Department as following acceptable educational practices. If the degree and/or college credit was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, an independent verification of equivalency must be provided. The Examinations Information Desk of the Department of Civil Service maintains a list of acceptable companies which provide this service. Any evaluation fees must be paid by the candidate and will not be reimbursed by the Canal Corporation or New York Power Authority. Additional Comments The Mapping Unit of the Technical Services Division is seeking to fill one position of Transportation Construction Inspector (TCI) in the Albany Office to support mapping activities during the summer navigational season.
These positions are seasonal in nature (maximum term = approx. 8 months) and the new hourly rates, as of April 1, 2026, are as follows:
TCI 1 - $21.22/hr.
TCI 2 - $23.34/hr.
TCI 3 - $25.46/hr.

The Canal system is made up of the Erie, Champlain, Oswego and Cayuga-Seneca canals, linking the Hudson River with the Great Lakes, the Finger Lakes and Lake Champlain. The 200-year-old NYS Canal System plays an important role in New York's economic development, tourism industry and environmental stewardship.
