Two Positions Available.
If you have 5 years of experience in Commercial Construction or Construction Management and your High School Diploma or GED, you may be Chatham County Engineering Departments next Transportation Construction Superintendent.
Examples of Duties
Under the supervision of the Senior Transportation Engineer, you will:
- Monitor and inspect road and transportation infrastructure construction projects to ensure compliance with project contract documents, plans, and specifications.
- Perform general construction inspections and oversee County transportation projects.
- Direct, monitor, and check to ensure the proper completion of the work of contractors and subcontractors follows the project contract documents, plans, and specifications.
- Inspect work while in progress and upon completion of the project.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the department and County personnel, contractors, subcontractors, temporary employees, and the public.
- Keep your immediate supervisor and designated others updated and informed concerning work progress, including any potential issues.
- Make suggestions for new or improved ways to address construction issues.
- Attend/hold job site construction progress meetings and generate and maintain daily construction reports, logs, and project punch lists.
- Measure quantities and perform calculations to verify contractor payments.
- Complete pay item reports to track quantities daily.
- Review and approve laboratory test results, contractor invoices, pay requests, change orders, as-builts, and close-out documents.
- Use roadway construction plans and profiles to estimate material quantities needed to complete work.
- Ensure proper installation and maintenance of Stormwater Best Management Practices.
- Respond to citizen questions and concerns in a timely and courteous manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED, and At least five (5) years of Commercial Construction Superintendent or Construction Management experience; or Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Construction or a related field.
Additional Qualifications
- Must possess or be able to obtain within six (6) months the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission (GSWCC) Level 1B Certification.
- Knowledge of GDOT standard specifications, technical specifications, MUTCD, and construction standards.
- Ability to read and understand roadway construction plans and profiles.
During emergencies and disasters affecting Chatham County, you may be required to report to work as part of a disaster operations team. In accordance with the Department of Transportation, Commercial Drivers License (CDL) holders and those employed in safety-sensitive positions are subject to random drug testing.
Candidates with direct and relevant experience may receive an offer of up to 10% above the minimum salary that is posted, reflecting their exceptional qualifications.

Eligibility for benefits begins on your date of hire. Full-time employees working a regular schedule of 30 or more hours per week are eligible for County benefits. Part-time, seasonal, and temporary employees are not eligible to participate in the County benefit plan. However, regular part-time employees accrue prorated vacation and sick leave based on their schedule.
