Job Summary
Manages and supports school transportation operations, including route planning, safety inspections, staff coordination, and routing technology. Collaborates with leadership and external partners to ensure efficient, safe, and compliant student transportation across public and special education services.
Education and Work Experience
Education:
High School diploma required.
Bachelor's degree in Transportation Planning, Public Administration, GIS, Urban Planning, or related field preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in school transportation or a related field.
Other Requirements:
Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
Commercial Class B driver's license preferred or willingness to obtain.
Willingness to complete additional training as required.
Essential Duties
Assists the Director of Transportation in managing safe, efficient, and cost-effective transportation systems.
Plans and maintains school bus routes using routing software and GIS technology.
Establishes and monitors bus stops for safety compliance and makes necessary adjustments.
Supervises assigned bus contractors, drivers, and attendants, including performance evaluations and policy compliance.
Conducts school bus evaluations and inspections; responds to accidents and transportation-related complaints.
Investigates driver performance, student behavior, and stop-related concerns; advises on resolution strategies.
Conducts and monitors school bus evacuation drills and oversees school bus safety equipment compliance.
Coordinates with school administrators and serves as liaison to parents, community members, and staff.
Assesses road and weather conditions and assists in operational decision-making during inclement weather.
Inputs, updates, and maintains student transportation data in routing systems and supports integration with CCPS platforms.
Maintains and updates school zone maps and the public-facing school locator portal.
Drafts and edits departmental communications, policy documents, and handbooks.
Manages the department website and ticketing system; assists with MSDE reports and documentation.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Transportation Manager or Director of Transportation.

The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
