POSITION SUMMARY
The Transportation Coordinator is responsible for providing safe, timely, and courteous rides for residents to and from various activities while providing quality service. The Coordinator is also responsible for maintaining paperwork and records and keeping the community's vehicles in good working condition. The Coordinator helps arrange residents' transportation needs, including medical appointments, outings, and other activities. The Coordinator is responsible for ensuring effective communication with residents, families, and caregivers and for notifying the manager and Health and Wellness Department of any changes in a resident's condition or behavior.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Transport residents (as well as a care provider if needed) to scheduled destinations in a safe, courteous, and timely manner.
  • Place passenger safety above all other concerns; always maintain accountability of passengers at all times.
  • Assist residents with any special needs during transportation, such as but not limited to, carrying packages, opening doors, and assisting residents in and out of the vehicle and to the point of destination. This may also include pushing a wheelchair.
  • Operating a Wheelchair lift and properly securing the resident's wheelchair to securement devices to stabilize wheelchairs during the trip.
  • Arrange residents' transportation schedules per residents' requests based on the resident transportation guidelines.
  • Maintaining records of all transportation requested and following the guidelines.
  • Communicating with residents, family members and/or care providers in order to properly schedule drop off and pick up.
  • Responsible for reviewing the daily transportation schedule and communicating with fellow Coordinators.
  • Transporting residents to/from planned outings booked by other departments.
  • Provide miscellaneous pickup and delivery services as needed.
  • Check vehicle prior to use for readiness, i.e., fuel, oil, tires, etc. Records routine maintenance and service check on vehicle.  Maintaining the vehicle in a high state of cleanliness. Notifies supervisor of necessary repairs and vehicle malfunctions.
  • Assisting with scheduling and taking the vehicle to/from service appointments.
  • Operate vehicle in accordance with traffic laws and regulations.
  • Submit to the Department of Transportation drug testing program and any other mandated safe driving program as requested.
  • Notify supervisor of resident concerns, problems or incidents immediately.
  • Assisting the Front Desk with operational needs.
  • Logging and delivery of packages to residents and departments.
  • Attend department staff and in-service meetings, as assigned.
  • Follow safety, loss prevention, and infection control procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

• Pay Rate: $26.85/hr
• Hours: On-Call
• Shift Schedule: Day Shift; 8 AM - 4:30 PM; 9 AM - 5:30 PM

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3 years as a licensed driver.
  • Valid California Class C license, with good driving record and no suspensions or revocations in the prior 3 years.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Process computer skills related to scheduler programming.
  • Experience with senior population; ability to transport residents in wheelchairs.
  • Must be able to interpret and follow map directions.
  • Ability to operate various sizes of vehicles (4 passengers, vans and buses) comfortably.
  • Ability to read, write, and effectively communicate in English.
  • Must maintain a courteous, friendly and helpful attitude with the residents and guests at all times.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to sit in a vehicle for up to 6 hours per day.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, stretch, and squat to load and unload cargo areas.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on vehicles according to schedule. Keep vehicles clean. 
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds for handling luggage, medical equipment, and resident groceries. May be exposed to the elements (rain, snow, cold, heat) for short periods of time. 
  • Must have good driving skills in handling vehicles on wet and/or slippery roads.
