Duties

To supervise drivers and design bus routes that allow for the smooth operation of the transportation components of the educational program, ensuring the safety of all Plano Community Unit School District No. 88 students and staff, and supporting the transportation needs of all curricular and extra-curricular programs.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Designs routes for regular education, special education, co-curricular activities, homeless

students, extra-curricular activities, and parochial students as requested.

  1. Processes parent requests for special pick-up or drop-off locations.

  2. Supervises the bidding process for routes and the awarding of routes.

  3. Maintains a current inventory of supplies and equipment.

  4. Maintains a log relative to automotive maintenance and preventive care to insure that repairs

oil and tire changes, and safety lane checks are completed in a timely manner.

  1. Oversees the recruitment, screening, training, testing and evaluation of bus transportation

employees.

  1. Responds effectively to special transportation needs and provides appropriate specialized

training.

  1. Supervises and assigns work for all drivers, aides, and the Assistant Transportation

Coordinator.

  1. Insures availability by district cell phone during and outside of regular work hours to respond

to questions or problems relative to transportation routes.

  1. Works as needed on school holidays and snow days to cover district transportation needs, and

is awarded commensurate vacation time as compensation.

  1. Collects and compiles data needed for state and federal reports.

  2. Collects and compiles data needed for the budgets and expenditure reports associated with

state and federal grants that include transportation services.

  1. Works with principals and social workers to develop PBIS programs aimed at educating bus

riders regarding the importance of good behavior and to develop reward programs to

reinforce good behavior.

  1. Maintains timely and courteous lines of communication with the public and school

personnel.

  1. Schedules and plans annual evacuation drills at all grade levels.

  2. Continuously updates student and route information in transportation and student database

software.

  1. Promotes high standards of safety and good housekeeping.

  2. Exercises fiscal responsibility in making purchasing, routing, and contracting decisions.

  3. Completes Annual Reviews on all bus drivers and aides.

  4. Follows all district and transportation policies and procedures.

  5. Annually participates in revising the Transportation Handbook.

  6. Performs other related duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Superintendent.

Qualifications

  1. Good communication and interpersonal skills.

  2. Ability to organize work effectively.

  3. Ability to utilize bus routing software.

  4. Basic accounting skills and ability to use spreadsheet software.

  5. Conversational Spanish is desirable, but not required.

  6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Salary/Benefits

$45,000 - $60.000 Based on background and experience.
