Closing Date: October 21, 2026Job Description:This is a Transportation Crew Leader position that will oversee the day-to-day operation of the Sign Shop Crew based out of our Industrial Drive, Augusta facility. This is maintenance and personal services work of a supervisory nature in overseeing a crew of Sign Manufacturers and Transportation Workers engaged in highway and other sign and decal design and manufacturing. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, supervising, and inspecting a variety of production and maintenance projects; managing the operation of specialized sign-making software and digital printing equipment; requiring the ability to review, manipulate, and prepare client-provided vector files (.EPS) and print-ready documents (.PDF) for large-format printer and plotters, keeping administrative records and developing budgets and reports; and monitoring materials and supplies and use of proper safety precautions. This position will participate in Work Plan development and stockpile management, will be responsible for ordering materials, taking in and assigning orders, handling the billing of multiple MaineDOT Bureaus as well as agencies outside of MaineDOT and should understand MUTCD requirements related to signs, sign manufacturing, sign assembly and repair and may also be required to support the local region with snow and ice control when needed. Work is performed under limited supervision.
To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must provide evidence of the following experience:- Two-year combination of experience, or education in highway/bridge construction, fleet equipment repair, or transportation related maintenance including at least one year of lead worker experience.
- Must possess the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities noted above with a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Required to work at a higher class as necessary and in accordance with required licenses and/or certifications.
Licensing/Registration/Certification Requirements: (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class).
Valid Class A motor vehicle license as issued by the State of Maine and completion of the 30 hour OSHA Safety course in construction (20 CFR Part 1926).
Under federal law, only U.S. Citizens, Permanent Residents, or H-2A, H-2B, or E-2 visa holders will be eligible for new or renewed CDLs.
