The engineer serves as a technical authority, exercising independent judgment on multidisciplinary teams.

You will lead and support projects for clients such as MARTA, the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC), Georgia DOT (GDOT), and the City of Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT). Projects include heavy and light rail, BRT, ADA accessibility programs, roadway reconstruction, and multimodal complete streets incorporating active transportation.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Lead complex transit infrastructure, multimodal corridor, and active transportation projects as project engineer of record.
  • Direct design of MARTA rail and bus infrastructure, BRT corridors, transit stations, and passenger amenities.
  • Oversee complete streets and multimodal corridor designs integrating pedestrian, bicycle, and transit accommodations per ADA and applicable federal, state, and local standards.
  • Lead technical review of construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, and contract documents.
  • Review and approve designs for regulatory compliance; ensure firm quality standards are upheld.
  • Exercise senior-level judgment in resolving complex design challenges, conflicts, and technical issues across multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Direct site investigations and field reviews to ensure design alignment; approve design requirement updates.
  • Inspect construction and provide technical judgment on findings and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with MARTA, GDOT, ATLDOT, ARC, regulatory agencies, and community partners throughout project delivery.
  • Manage subconsultant teams and interdisciplinary coordination across complex, multi-phase programs.
  • Contribute to technical knowledge management by authoring white papers, design documentation, and guidance documents.
  • Publish technical work in professional journals and represent the firm at conferences and industry events.
  • Mentor mid-level and junior staff; review and approve their work.
  • Support business development including proposal preparation, client presentations, and pursuit strategy.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering.
  • PE license.
  • 10 years of related experience.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
  • Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Georgia, or ability to obtain licensure by reciprocity within 6 months of hire.
  • 12 or more years of directly related professional experience in civil or transportation engineering, with a significant portion focused on transit and multimodal infrastructure in the Atlanta metropolitan region.
  • Direct project experience with MARTA, GDOT, ATLDOT, ARC, or related Atlanta-area transit and transportation agencies.
  • Experience delivering federally funded transit and transportation capital projects under FTA or FHWA program requirements.
  • Familiarity with NEPA processes, environmental permitting, and right-of-way acquisition in the Georgia regulatory context.
  • Experience with design-build, P3, or alternative project delivery methods on transit or transportation infrastructure.
  • Background in stormwater management, green infrastructure, or sustainable design practices in urban corridor applications, including Georgia EPD and City of Atlanta stormwater requirements.
  • Proficiency in GIS tools such as ArcGIS or QGIS for spatial analysis and project mapping.
