Job TitleTransportation Engineer II or III – Central Design (2601497)LocationFort Worth District Headquarters, 2501 SW Loop 820, Fort Worth, Texas, 76133SalaryTransportation Engineer II: B25 ($69,572 – $114,099)Transportation Engineer III: B26 ($76,530 – $129,430)Employment InformationFull‑time, Regular, Standard, Non‑Management, Day shift, 40‑hour week, onsite, 10% travel, weekend and holiday work required.Benefits & PerksRetirement plansAlternative and/or flexible work schedulesPaid leave and holidaysHealth premiums paid at 100% for full‑time employeesOn‑the‑job trainingTuition assistance programHolistic wellness program with leave incentivesCareer development and advancement opportunitiesFamily‑friendly policies and programsResponsibilitiesAssist in developing and monitoring project budgets.Perform complex engineering design work: layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates, and contracts.Review, update, and monitor requests for changes to plans, manuals, and standard sheets.Assist with design, computer operations, and plan preparation.Serve as a lead worker on related tasks.Coordinate review and processing of Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) submissions, special specifications, or provisions.Design pavement sections and make recommendations.Use the department's Critical Path Method (CPM) schedule and resource management tool for project scheduling and resource allocation.Travel to project locations for on‑site engineering reviews, analyses, tests, and technical support.Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.Minimum QualificationsEducation: Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science (higher degrees accepted by TX PELS).Experience: 5 years of engineering, transportation engineering, or related experience (full‑time or proportional part‑time).Licensing: Valid driver's license and a valid Texas professional engineer license or eligibility to obtain one within six months of hire.Certification: Mandatory Safety Impact Certificate.CompetenciesKnowledge of applicable governmental laws, rules, and regulations in transportation engineering.Proficiency in hydrologic, hydraulic, and pavement engineering principles and practices.Understanding of construction phasing, sequencing, and cost estimating.Strong geometric design, traffic operations, and maintenance concepts.Ability to use engineering workstations and design software efficiently.Effective communication and teamwork skills; capable of coordinating with multiple stakeholders.Physical RequirementsLift up to 20 lbs and frequently move lighter objects up to 10 lbs.Walk, stand, crouch, and observe on varied surfaces.Perform repetitive wrist and finger motions and typing.Operate in noisy and variable environmental conditions.Additional RequirementsMust pass a drug test, comply with random drug testing for safety impact positions, wear personal protective equipment, and obtain a pre‑employment physical.Equal Opportunity StatementThe Texas Department of Transportation is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
