Position InformationTxDOT is seeking a Transportation Engineer III or IV with roadway design related experience to fill an open position within the Fort Worth District's Bridge Design section. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Works directly with governmental officials and private entities and establishes own work plan and priorities to meet objectives.Assists Project Managers to establish realistic and achievable schedule baselines for complex projects.Designs highly complex bridge projects and performs specialized design.Leads and trains professional and administrative staff.Reviews shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements, and change order requests.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Additional Responsibilities for Transportation Engineer IVPerforms highly advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates, and contracts.Serves as a project manager overseeing consultants performing advanced and complex engineering work.Coordinates and/or monitors assigned projects, programs, or plans.Performs highly complex structural analysis of bridge designs and reviews special designs and solutions for unique structural problems.Minimum QualificationsEducationBachelor's Degree in engineering or related science. A bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.Experience7 years of engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (full-time or prorated part-time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year-per-year basis.Licenses and CertificationsValid driver's license and ability to drive a state vehicle.Licensed Professional Engineer in Texas or within six (6) months of hire if licensed in another U.S. state.Mandatory Safety Impact Certificate.Technical SkillsGeometric design relationships to traffic operations, maintenance and construction.Foundation analysis programs.Fatigue and fracture mechanics.Applicable plans, specifications, and estimates preparation, review, processing and compliance requirements.Design and plan preparation methods and requirements.Physical Requirements and Working ConditionsSubject to inside and outside environmental conditions.Required to wear protective gear (respirator, hard hat, or other device).Sedentary work: lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools.Job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre-employment physical.Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions; subject to random drug testing.Required to work hours other than 8 to 5.Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.ScheduleFull-time; Regular employment status.
