Job Responsibilities
Under the general supervision of the Design Manager, assists with planning, coordination, and administration of major regional engineering activities of moderate scope and complexity.
Supports discipline leads to ensure plans are developed in accordance with the mission of the Department. Provides technical assistance to design groups including development and review of project designs, investigating design and utility conflicts, writing project special provisions, and entering pay items in P2S.
Assists in managing in-house design squads to maximize productivity and efficiency to deliver completed highway plans in a timely manner. Forecasts workloads and monitors staff workload balance and recommends use of consultants where needed to manage peaks in workload. Assists in the development of project schedules and the monitoring and maintenance of schedules.
Represents the Department in meetings, assists in preparing reports, reviews plans/documents, participates on committees and coordinates with other offices.
Assists discipline leads and design groups during peaks in workload and staff turnover by completing design tasks and analysis.
Assists with management of design/discipline on-call consultants including contract negotiations and compliance with procurement policies and contract management/administration ensuring quality and timeliness of deliverables. Assist with the review of turn-key scopes of services, estimates and fee submittals to ensure fair contract rates, fees, etc.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A bachelors degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Construction Science and Management and three (3) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operators license is required.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. May require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal business hours or respond to emergency situations.
