Job Responsibilities
At Sumter Maintenance, assists the Resident Maintenance Engineer (RME) in supervising the encroachment permit process. Reviews permits prior to submitting to the RME and/or District for approval. Supervises permit technicians. Trains permit technician on EPPS Permit System. Assists the RME in supervising the contractors and local municipalities working under encroachment permits and purchase orders. Responsible for assisting with the management of maintenance activities that include but are not limited to, guardrail repair and installation, chip seal, resurfacing, full depth patching, pavement markings, vegetation management, etc. This work includes the gathering of data for projects and preparing specifications and submittal packages. Oversees existing permit work for QA/QC, erosion control and traffic control. Assists RME with response to SCDOT web page and investigation of damage claims. Assists RME with Non-Federal and Federal Aid routes for resurfacing and assists Sumter Construction to develop estimates for this planned work. Provides assistance during inclement weather. Serves as assistant to the shift supervisor to maintain records of activities, and coordinates crews and equipment to accomplish necessary work.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operators licesnse is required.
The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. This position may require travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position requires driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies.
Additional Comments
May be required to work overtime, nighttime, and/or weekends during hazardous weather or emergencies.
