Job Responsibilities

Acts as Inspector on roadway projects. Independently performs inspection, material sampling, and testing. Inspects the placement of asphalt and other surface materials on the roadway. Inspects the placement of concrete curb and gutter, sidewalk, storm drain, and other concrete roadway structures. Performs inspection of traffic control devices (signs, signals, and pavement markings) for compliance, deficiencies, damage, or possible sight obstruction using state and federal guidelines. Performs inspection of miscellaneous roadway items. Performs all required traffic control and erosion control inspections. Assists with determining and resolving utility conflicts. Acts as Inspector on bridge projects. Independently performs inspection, material sampling, and testing. Inspects the placement of concrete for all cast in place bridge elements, as well as other concrete roadway structures. Assists in the inspection of the installation of driven piles, drilled piles, and drilled shaft foundations. Inspects the placement of embankment material, stone bases, and storm drain for bridge approaches and realignments. Performs inspection of traffic control devices (signs, signals, and pavement markings) for compliance, deficiencies, damage, or possible sight obstruction using state and federal guidelines. Performs inspection of miscellaneous bridge and structural items. Performs all required traffic control and erosion control inspections. Assists with determining and resolving utility conflicts. Acts as Inspector/Surveyor on Roadway and Bridge Projects. Assists in surveying, checking, and verifying all offsets and grades associated with all phases of construction. Acts as inspector/liaison on roadway and bridge projects. Performs EEO and wage regulation interviews. Responsible for a portion of project correspondence with the Department and contractor personnel. Maintains Project Records. Inputs/reviews all daily work reports on assigned projects. Maintains project records in accordance with Department and office policies. Verifies the accuracy of the certification and ample logs on assigned projects. Assists in the preparation of monthly construction estimates. Performs general office duties: Assists with phones and customer service as necessary. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A high school diploma and one (1) year of experience that is related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.

The physical demands for the essential functions involves frequent bending, kneeling, stooping and lifting up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May require occasional exposure to noise. May require working outside of normal work schedules and weekends.
