Job Responsibilities
Performs technical duties in the areas of maintenance and inspection related to district and state maintenance contracts, and roadway and guardrail inspection activities for the seven counties of District Four. Conducts field inspections for district-wide maintenance contracts such as multi-county interstate corridors litter, mowing and barrier wall sweeping activities; routine roadway mowing on county primary and secondary routes; and district pavement marking re-stripping where field measurements for payment are required. Inspects Interstate, Primary and Secondary route assets for deficiencies associated with pavement conditions and markings; sidewalk and other roadside shoulder appurtenances; guardrails, attenuator, barrier walls and cable barrier defects; sign conditions and reflectivity, obstructions and damaged and/or missing locations; vegetation growth impacting traffic and dead trees; drainage structures and ditch line impacts and other traffic hazards in accordance with Engineering Directive 8 Daytime Inspections, and other engineering and departmental directives as needed.
Provides unit supervisor with reports outlining vegetation and roadway quantities deficiencies to be used by district and county supervisors and managers for future planning and budgeting contracts with the district and counties. Logs county inspection data into Highway Maintenance Management System (HMMS) and Enterprise Asset Management System (EAMS), maintains files, forms, checklists and spreadsheets associated with the preparation for and completion of unit's roadway inspections and sign replacement activities. Performs general inspection duties on approved encroachments and maintenance operations as a Certified Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control Inspector (CEPSI) for compliance involving erosion prevention and sediment control measures, and other environmental factors.
Performs safety related duties such as conducting safety inspections and daily preventative maintenance activities on all assigned unit equipment. Determines proper equipment, materials and labor needed in order to complete tasks. Assists in emergency or inclement weather operations. May include being available for extended hours or extended shift operations. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A high school diploma and one (1) year of experience that is related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position required driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.
