ResponsibilitiesPerforms independent inspection in all fields and produces the required reports relating to those inspections in a timely manner.Maintains inspection and testing equipment, as well as completes daily times sheets and monthly mileage reports.Assists Project Managers in the generation of monthly estimates in SiteManager, and closeout activities, such as final quantities and As-Built Drawings.Performs construction verification surveys and operates survey equipment during these surveys.Is responsible for pre‑construction layout activities and data collection.Ensures the collection of and/or collects samples and certifications relating to construction inspection activities.Assists with helping to train other inspectors in all areas of inspection and survey verification.Performs other related duties as assigned.QualificationsA high school diploma and one (1) year of experience that is related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence.Physical DemandsFrequent bending, kneeling, stooping and lifting up to 50 lbs.Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards.May require occasional exposure to noise.May require working outside of normal work schedules and weekends.Non-Discrimination StatementThe South Carolina Department of Transportation is committed to a diverse workforce and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information.BenefitsThe state of South Carolina offers eligible employees generous benefits, including health and dental insurance; retirement and savings plan options; and paid vacation and sick leave.
