Job Responsibilities

Assists the DCE with the planning and development of roadway contracts throughout District 6, including resurfacing, pavement markings, guardrail, and related projects. Duties include gathering project data, conducting field reviews, assisting with budgeting, and preparing contract submittal packages for letting using applicable computer software and systems. Coordinates planning activities for preservation and preventative maintenance programs, including preparation of contracts for chip seal, full-depth patching, crack sealing, thin lifts, mill-and-fill projects, and related work. Performs roadway inspections to determine field quantities and support project development. Supports the DCE with the planning, coordination, and preparation of resurfacing and other roadway improvement project requests from CTCs, County Sales Tax programs, and other RPG requests. Maintains current project databases utilizing Microsoft Office products in support of the DCE. Provides contract information in response to requests from Resident Maintenance Engineers (RME), Resident Construction Engineers (RCE), District staff, Headquarters staff, other governing agencies, and the public in support of the DCE. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A high school diploma and four and one-half (4.5) years of progressively responsible engineering technician related experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Attainment of a Technician Certification in accordance with the SCDOT Technician Certification Policy may substitute for six (6) months of directly related experience.

Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position requires driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.

A motor vehicle operator's license is required.
