POSITION

BAWAC, Inc. is seeking a Transportation Manager. The Transportation Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and strategic planning of the transportation department to ensure safe, efficient, and client-focused services. This position ensures compliance with agency policies, broker contracts, and regulatory standards while leading departmental staff and managing fleet operations.

JOB DUTIES

  • Design and adjust client transportation routes to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with drivers, clients, agency personnel, the regional transportation broker, and partner agencies.
  • Manage the transportation broker contracts, MOU’s and agreements to ensure all contractual specifications are met.
  • Provide reports and updates on department metrics as requested by Proudworks Leadership.
  • Serve as a backup driver when necessary to maintain service continuity.
  • Interview, hire, and onboard drivers in accordance with Proudworks’s employment policies and procedures.
  • Provide comprehensive driver orientation and training, including safety and emergency procedures, vehicle operation, and wheelchair protocols, appearance and ID guidelines, vehicle cleanliness expectations, and required documentation.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations of transportation staff.
  • Maintain up-to-date job and position descriptions for department personnel.
  • Implement disciplinary procedures as required.
  • Oversee maintenance schedules and ensure proper servicing of all assigned vehicles.
  • Assess fleet needs and coordinate appropriate vehicle repairs or replacements.
  • Monitor vehicle condition, appearance, and compliance with broker standards.
  • Manage the onboard camera and GPS systems to monitor route efficiency and promote safe driving behavior.
  • Ensure proper licensing, certification, and background checks for all transportation staff and vehicles.
  • Ensure all vehicle records are organized and managed.
  • Oversee billing procedures to ensure accurate data entry for broker reimbursement.
  • Establish and maintain a department-specific data collection system aligned with Proudworks’s program evaluation structure.
  • Develop and update outcome measures for departmental performance and report results accordingly.
  • Provide data and insights to the Director of Operations for budget planning.
  • Monitor departmental expenditures to ensure cost-effective operations.
  • Provide support to the Board of Directors through data collection or presentations as requested.
  • Represent Proudworks in public presentations, tours, or community engagements.
  • Foster and promote a culture of safety in all transportation operations.
  • Identify and eliminate safety hazards as they arise.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization within transportation facilities and fleet.
  • Ensure all staff are aware of and follow emergency procedures.
  • Log and report all incidents, injuries, and first aid treatments in accordance with agency policies.
  • Ensure all training, safety protocols, and procedures are current and accurate.
  • Create and implement corrective action plans where needed to ensure department goals and requirements are met.
  • Maintain certifications in CPR and First Aid and ensure compliance with broker training requirements.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • This position requires on-site work at the Proudworks facility and travel in agency vehicles.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends for emergencies or events.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally and assist with securing mobility devices if needed.
  • Physical stamina and good upper body strength to transport, move, or assist clients with disabilities. As a driver, must be able to bend, crouch, squat, and able to push wheelchairs without restriction.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with technology, data management systems, and reporting tools.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Education or Equivalent.
  • BS in Business Administration or Transportation Management a plus but not required.
  • Knowledge of transportation regulations, safety practices, and fleet operations.
  • CPR and First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification upon hire.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required licenses and certifications.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in transportation /Logistics a plus.
  • Strong computer aptitude.
  • At least 2-3 years of experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
