Position Overview: We’re looking for a Transportation Manager to join our team.  As a Transportation Manager, you will be responsible for coordinating and executing the movement of goods from multiple locations, as well as overseeing the shipping and receiving function within the warehouse. You will ensure efficient transportation operations by managing the carrier base, monitoring delivery schedules, and optimizing costs while ensuring timely deliveries to our customers. You will be responsible for the overall logistics of the company’s transportation needs, including the movement of material handling equipment between jobsites, while also overseeing inbound and outbound shipments, inventory accuracy, and warehouse dock operations, and coordinating with other departments to streamline the supply chain.  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Fleet management: Oversee vehicle and material handling equipment maintenance schedules, inspections, repairs, and ensure compliance with safety standards.

 

  • Cost control: Negotiate rates with carriers, track transportation expenses, identify cost-saving opportunities, and manage budgets.

 

  • Shipment coordination: Manage the scheduling and dispatching of shipments, ensuring timely pick-up and delivery.

 

  • Compliance management: Stay informed about and adhere to all transportation regulations, including safety standards and environmental regulations.

 

  • Performance monitoring: Track key performance indicators (KPIs) like delivery times, on-time delivery rates, and fuel consumption to identify areas for improvement.

 

  • Problem-solving: Resolve transportation issues such as delays, damaged goods, or unexpected disruptions.

 

  • Collaboration: Work with other departments like sales, production, and warehouse operations to ensure seamless integration and smooth logistics flow.

 

  • Shipping & receiving oversight: Manage daily warehouse shipping and receiving operations, including dock scheduling, load/unload activities, and staffing of the shipping and receiving team.

 

  • Inventory accuracy: Verify incoming materials against purchase orders and packing slips, reconcile discrepancies, and maintain accurate inventory records in coordination with the warehouse management system.

 

  • Documentation & compliance: Ensure accurate completion of bills of lading, packing lists, and receiving paperwork, and maintain compliance with OSHA and warehouse safety standards for material handling and dock operations.

  • Proficiency with logistics software and data analysis tools
  • Understanding of supply chain management principles
  • Working knowledge of shipping and receiving processes, warehouse management systems (WMS), and inventory control practices

 

Relevant work experience:

  • Previous experience in transportation logistics, logistics operations, or a related field
  • Familiarity with different transportation modes (trucking, rail, air, sea)
  • Previous experience overseeing warehouse shipping and receiving operations
