    Job Description:

    This position can be based in any of our Texas offices and will support the development and analysis of comprehensive transportation solutions across all infrastructure modes. The successful candidate will work under light supervision to advance transportation projects from concept through implementation, collaborating with engineers, stakeholders, and community members to create data-driven, evidence-based transportation systems.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Gathers, compiles, and analyzes transportation data—including demographic, economic, land use, environmental metrics, traffic counts, and flow patterns—to develop transportation models of varying complexity for existing and proposed systems across all modes (roads, bridges, highways, tunnels, tolls, transit, rail, freight, aviation, and bike/pedestrian infrastructure).
    • Reviews existing models and recommends improvements/changes as necessary.
    • Leverages transportation systems, models, simulations, and data to prepare comprehensive studies—from feasibility analyses to system reviews—that assess new infrastructure, system upgrades, route optimization, and performance evaluations.
    • Designs engaging surveys, exhibits, and presentation materials that identify community concerns and foster meaningful public and stakeholder engagement.
    • Develops and conducts traffic count and safety studies to inform evidence-based transportation decisions.
    • Reviews proposed transportation project sites for alignment with draft designs and plans.
    • Reviews transportation plans for compliance/consistency with applicable local, state and federal laws.
    • Escalates any legal compliance issues as necessary.
    • Collaborates with engineers to research, analyze or resolve complex transportation conceptual/schematic design issues.
    • Mentors junior staff by providing technical guidance and fostering professional development that prepares them for advancement within the discipline and organization.
    • Performs other duties as required.

     

    Skills & Abilities:

     

    • Demonstrated expertise in transportation principles, methods, and best practices across all modes, combined with current awareness of emerging transportation trends and challenges.
    • Comprehensive understanding of government regulations and agency requirements.
    • Strong foundation in regional and community planning principles, with practical ability to apply planning methodologies, techniques, and tools to analyze and design transportation solutions.
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for engaging diverse audiences.

     

    Qualifications:

     

    • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Community Planning, Regional Planning, or related discipline, or equivalent directly related professional experience.
    • Minimum 3 years of related transportation or planning experience.

Additional Compensation : All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position. Pay Range Min: USD $71,781.00 Pay Range Max: USD $118,477.00 Visa Sponsorship Available : We will support sponsorship, i.e. H-1B or TN Visas for this position
