The Role: Under supervision of Transportation Planning Administrator, the Transportation Planner performs professional planning work relating to the Citys transportation system. The ideal candidate for the role will have a Bachelors degree in Urban or Transportation Planning, Urban Design, Geography, or related field, and three years of experience in transportation planning, project review, or related transportation development activity.
Salary and Hiring Bonus: This position is a Grade 407 with an annual salary between $66,264-$99,396

Holiday, Vacation, and Sick Leave: Regular status position's offer: The City of Glendale observes 10.5 holidays per year, and full-time employees are also granted an additional 12 hours of holiday special leave per calendar year to celebrate their cultural or religious holidays.
Vacation leave accrues at 5.33 hours per pay period (138 hours per year), and increases to 6.12 hours after 5 years, and to 7.6 hours after 10 years of service.
Sick leave accrues at 4.4 hours per pay period (114 hours per year).
Retirement: This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Contribution is mandatory, and the current contribution rate is 12%.
Essential Functions Performs transportation planning activities that include development and preparation of multi modal planning studies, transportation programming, writing council communications and participating in the public involvement process.
Provides staff assistance in planning and preparing for as well as supporting the Citizens Transportation Oversight Commission (CTOC).
Serves as a member of the MAG Active Transportation Committee.
Coordinates with regional, state and federal planning organizations on regional, state and federally funded projects, and provides review and input on regional committees agendas.
Represents the Transportation Department on various intergovernmental committees on regional transportation planning and development matters.
Conducts research and analyzes traffic and land use data to identify transportation system needs.
Participates in regional transportation planning studies including regionally funded projects for the city and submits applications for federal funding.
Coordinates the work of consultants performing transportation planning activities and assists with developing project schedules.
Conducts public meetings with neighborhood groups.
Researches, writes and makes recommendations for complex transportation plans and studies.
Assists in preparing the Capital Improvement Program Budget for transportation projects.
Performs mathematical calculations, financial analysis, and cost analysis for transportation planning projects and programs.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications/Special Requirements/Success Factors
Bachelors degree in Urban or Transportation Planning, Urban Design, Geography, or related field, and three years of experience in transportation planning, project review, or related transportation development activity.
Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.
One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.

The principles, practices, and methods used in transportation and land use planning and available implementation techniques
Data gathering and research methods, data review, reporting, and presentation
Public communication and issue resolution techniques
Capital project planning and design review
Intergovernmental coordination processes

GIS application to transportation planning projects and initiatives

Apply transportation planning principles to work assignments, implement City ordinances and policies

Conduct research, compile data, analyze findings, identify key issues and prepare professional recommendations
Represent the City of Glendale on various regional County and State Committees
Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, contractors, other government agencies, and the general public
Conduct public meetings on transportation planning and be viewed by the public as an expert in these areas
Exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment
