Job Description Title - Routing Specialist Reports To: Supervisor of Transportation and Maintenance FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt Job Goal: To support the efficient and safe transportation of students by assisting with school bus routing, driver scheduling, substitute driver coordination, and communication with schools, parents/guardians, and transportation staff. Job Summary: This position requires strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, computer proficiency, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will also obtain school bus driver certification within six months of hire and may drive routes as needed to support transportation operations. Minimum Qualifications: A. High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional education, training, or experience in school transportation or a related field is preferred. B. Intermediate computer skills, including experience working with spreadsheets and databases. C. Ability to learn and effectively operate multiple software applications and transportation systems. D. Ability to organize information, prioritize tasks, and work effectively in a deadline-driven environment. E. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally by phone and email. F. Ability to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination. G. Ability to obtain and maintain required school bus driver certification within six months of hire. H. Ability and willingness to drive a school bus and assist with routes when necessary. I. Must obtain a criminal history background clearance and meet the suitability criteria for employment under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457. Preferred Qualifications: A. Experience in school transportation. B. Experience working with transportation routing software or student transportation databases. C. Previous experience in a school or public-sector environment. D. Strong problem-solving and customer service skills. Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Terms of employment: 240-days Daily work schedule will be determined by supervisor or his/her designee for the necessary operations of the school system. Work assignments and schedules are subject to change. Salary: Approved salary schedule for Bus Shop and Maintenance Personnel is located on the Human Resources webpage. Salary for personnel is set at appropriate step and rank on adopted salary schedule based on skill level and experience. Annual salary is based on a 40-hour week. Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the support personnel evaluation system and board policy.
