Job Title: Transportation Software Technician
Description: Poplar Bluff R-I Transportation Department is seeking applicants for the 12-month position of Transportation Software Technician.
Qualifications: Must have and maintain a valid Missouri Substitute Teaching Certificate; background in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
Reports To: Director of Transportation
Job Goal: This position will be responsible for all aspects of the district's transportation hardware, software, and training needs. At this time, software and hardware include the use of Transfinder's RouteFinder Plus routing system, Cal/Amp's Here Comes The Bus GPS fleet monitoring system, and REI video surveillance systems.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Will adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Will adhere to all policies and regulations set forth by the Poplar Bluff R-1 Board of Education.

- Exhibit positive communication skills with the public.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
Technical Experience and Responsibilities:
- Must be experienced with Microsoft Windows operating systems.
- Must be experienced with Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel.
- Must be familiar with basic computer concepts including identification and comparison of different file formats, familiarity with video storage systems, knowledge of file sharing capabilities, and shared storage concepts.
- Must be able to maintain and appropriately store documents, records, and video recordings and be able to share records with appropriate personnel when requested.
- Must be able to diagnose and troubleshoot basic hardware and software issues and make necessary repairs or corrections where necessary.
- Must be able to communicate technical concepts and information to a non-technical audience.
- Preferred experience with the Google Workspace application suite including Google Docs and Google Sheets.
- Preferred experience and/or familiarity with geographic information systems and mapping applications.
- Preferred experience with database management systems and concepts.
- Must be experienced with basic office equipment including phones, printers, copiers, scanners, labels, and ID printers.
- Must be able to keep a detailed record of technical documentation and user manuals/training materials related to all assigned systems.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain routing software and assist district administration and parents with transportation routes and other needs.
- Maintain accurate files of all business matters.
- Inform supervisors of all important issues.
- Gather information to assist the director in scheduling routes and day-to-day operations.
- Assist other staff members with various issues including accounts and training.
- Keep supervisor aware of scheduled meetings/trips.
- Prepare reports when requested.
- Gather data and prepare statistical materials when requested.
- Assist with registration and other tasks involving technology or programs.
- Ensures and maintains the integrity of data collected.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.
- Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally in stressful situations to an audience including staff members and parents.
- Must be motivated to learn new concepts and information independently and through self-directed resources.
Essential Functions of the Job:
- Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
- Must be able to communicate clearly with teachers, students, administrators, and other staff.
- Must be able to climb and work from ladders, step ladders, and step stools, and be able to bend, lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
- Must have dexterous use of both hands so as to be able to operate computers and other related office equipment.
- Any other duties assigned by the administration.
