Position Summary:

The Transportation Specialist coordinates and supports the daily operation of student transportation services to ensure the safe, efficient, and timely transport of students. This role serves as a liaison among schools, families, transportation providers, and district staff to address transportation needs, resolve concerns, and maintain compliance with district, state, and federal regulations. The Transportation Specialist assists with route coordination, student transportation eligibility, record management, and communication while promoting exceptional customer service and supporting a safe and reliable transportation program for all students.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and oversee daily student transportation operations to ensure safe, efficient, and timely transportation services.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for schools, families, transportation providers, and district staff regarding transportation requests and concerns.
  • Assist with the development, coordination, and monitoring of bus routes, student assignments, and transportation schedules.
  • Maintain accurate transportation records, including student eligibility, route information, and documentation in accordance with district policies and applicable regulations.
  • Investigate and resolve transportation issues, including routing concerns, parent inquiries, and service disruptions, in a timely and professional manner.
  • Monitor compliance with district, state, and federal transportation requirements, including safety standards and student transportation policies.
  • Collaborate with school administrators and departments to support transportation needs for special programs, field trips, extracurricular activities, and emergency situations.
  • Prepare reports, analyze transportation data, and recommend process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and customer service.
  • Provide exceptional customer service while fostering positive working relationships with students, families, staff, and transportation vendors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

  • Proficient in computer and data entry systems
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, punctual, and reliable
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree required; Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Experience working with youth and families from urban communities
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required
  • Reliable transportation required
  • Lawrence residents highly preferred
  • Availability to work some evenings and weekends

Pay Range

  • $47,267 - $75,739
