If you thrive on turning intricate plans into safe, high-quality structures, this role is for you. You will be the single point of contact guiding heavy civil projects from first schedule to final sign-off, keeping teams aligned and owners informed every step of the way.
Your Core Challenges
- Can you manage every phase—from preconstruction through closeout—to hit schedule, budget, safety, and quality targets?
- Will you build and maintain an accurate, resource-loaded schedule (critical path included) that drives decision-making?
- Can you lead field supervisors, engineers, and subcontractors to execute as one team?
- Do you spot risks early and resolve them before they impact the work?
- Can you champion safety, quality, and environmental compliance on every activity?
- Are you confident enforcing contract terms and ensuring all parties meet their obligations?
- Will you process RFIs, submittals, and negotiate change orders quickly and accurately?
- Can you track costs, forecast performance, and protect margin?
- Do you know how to secure permits and validate subcontractor insurance and compliance?
- Can you align procurement—materials, equipment, specialty services—to the needs of the schedule?
- Will you mentor, coach, and evaluate team members to elevate performance?
- Can you build strong relationships with owners, engineers, vendors, and agencies—and keep communication clear?
- Are you able to run effective project meetings and deliver sharp monthly status reports?
- Can you drive punch list completion, manage documentation (as-builts, warranties), and obtain final approvals?
What It Takes to Win
- Bachelor’s in engineering, construction management, or related field.
- 10 years of progressive experience with a general contractor on large heavy highway/civil jobs.
- Lifecycle mastery: precon, execution, and final closeout.
- Persuasive negotiator with proven owner/sub/vendor relationship-building skills.
- 5+ years leading people with measurable team development results.
- Thrives in fast-paced, high-pressure settings without losing attention to detail.
- Proficient with PM systems, scheduling tools (Primavera P6, MS Project), and financial reporting.
- Deep knowledge of grading, drainage, structures, and paving; roadway/structures background strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with VDOT standards, environmental compliance, and permitting workflows.
- Genuine enthusiasm for construction and contributing to company success.
