The Driver performs work in the operation of a vehicle to ensure safe transportation of clients to and from various destinations and to assist clients on entry and exit from vehicles as necessary. The Director of Day Programs supervises this employee & his/her work will be reviewed through observation and a review of records. 

Hours: 8 am-9 am, 2-3/3:30 pm, 6-7/7:30 pm; 3-5 hours per day or 15-20 hours per week if transporting during all available times. 

Essential Functions: 

1. Drives an assigned route to transport individuals to and from various homes to human service locations, work sites, and other locations. 

2. Assumes responsibility for care and maintenance of van; washes van and cleans interior; assures that van receives any necessary repairs. 

3. May operate a van to transport meals to various nutrition sites. 

4. Assists passengers in getting in and out of vehicles and provides other courtesies. 

5. Assists passengers in securing wheelchairs and other mobility devices. 

6. Maintains a variety of records, purpose of the trip, the number of consumers 

mileage, and vehicle maintenance. 

7. Performs related duties as required. 

8. Uses good independent judgment in handling unusual situations arising with 

Passengers 

9. Maintains a safe driving record and a valid license 

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job does not involve responsibility for supervising a staff; however, the employee must be able to communicate and work effectively with staff and clients. 

Minimum Qualifications: A high school diploma. A valid driver's license issued by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. Must be 18 years of age or older, with a satisfactory driving record. Have completed a defensive driver training and be CPR and first aid certified. Experience 

in the operation of large vehicles is a plus. Applicant must consent to a driving history record check by an agency vendor of choice. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

1. Working knowledge of the rules and regulations involved in the safe and efficient operation of automotive equipment. 

2. Knowledge of basic automotive maintenance procedures. 

3. Ability to deal effectively and patiently with others. 

4. Ability to operate a van or small bus. 

5. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. 

6. Ability to operate lift equipment and to correctly secure wheelchairs and other mobility 

devices. 

7. Ability to lift weights of 40-60 lbs.
