Responsibilities
  • Ensure all materials, procedures, and safety rules comply with the latest NCDOT standards.
  • Sample and test construction materials to ensure they meet the quality requirements of the project specifications.
  • Material sampling of concrete, asphalt, and aggregates.
  • Record daily construction inspection notes for CEI document management.
  • Interact and communicate effectively with colleagues and client representatives.
  • Attend meetings and interact with clients and third-party personnel.
  • Must use diplomacy in difficult and stressful situations.
Qualifications
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Fleet drivers must possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
  • Must complete a pre-employment screening; ICE is a drug-free workplace.
Education & Experience Requirements
  • HS diploma or equivalent required. Technical college coursework in engineering is preferred.
  • 2 or more years of highway construction or asphalt roadway experience is preferred.
  • A minimum of four years of experience in DOT QC/inspection work is required with current certifications.
  • Strong written and communication skills required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft programs and ability to learn new technology.
  • Above-average math and problem-solving skills are required.
Physical Demands
The role involves moderate physical activity such as walking, standing, bending, and climbing stairs or ladders. Employees may occasionally lift objects weighing up to 80 pounds. It is essential for employees to navigate construction sites skillfully and conduct thorough inspections of materials and structures.
 
Employees must have the ability to visually discern and differentiate details and colors of objects, and proficiency in recognizing sound, tone, and pitch. Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary. The role demands adaptability to interruptions and changes in workflow, as well as the capacity to sit for extended periods. Employees must be capable of working in varied environmental conditions, including hot, cold, and noisy settings, and be able to stand and walk during site visits. Additionally, working on construction projects may involve night work and weekend work depending on the project scope and may include working in conditions with active traffic.

Expected Hours of Work
The ICE offices are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, allowing an unpaid hour for lunch daily. Work schedules may vary according to the project schedule.
