Position Summary:
The Van Operator is a qualified, safety-conscious driver responsible for transporting clients from their homes to the agency in the morning and returning them home in the evening. This position requires a clean driving record, general vehicle maintenance knowledge, and flexibility to adapt to last-minute schedule changes. The operator ensures the safety, punctuality, and comfort of all passengers while maintaining a professional and positive attitude.
Duties & Responsibilities:
+ Safely transport passengers to and from their homes and the agency, ensuring timely arrival.
+ Always ensure client safety by:
+ Obeying all traffic laws and regulations.
+ Properly securing seatbelts and wheelchair securement systems.
+ Assisting clients on and off the Van as needed.
+ Managing disputes or behaviors appropriately.
+ Reporting safety concerns or potential problems promptly.
+ Perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, accurately completing required documentation, and promptly reporting mechanical issues to the mechanic.
+ Complete and maintain daily transportation logs, repair notes, and rider reports.
+ Greet and interact with passengers in a friendly, professional manner; maintain positive relationships with clients, coworkers, and supervisors.
+ Remain flexible and available for changes in schedule, including on-call needs.
+ Provide advance notice when unable to complete a scheduled run to allow for back-up coverage.
+ Assist with agency functions, including fundraising efforts, as requested.
+ Represent the agency in a professional manner, maintaining a positive public image at all times.
+ Maintain confidentiality regarding clients and agency operations.
+ Participate in and successfully complete all agency-required training.
+ Keep the assigned vehicle clean, both inside and out, on a daily basis.
+ Perform other duties as assigned, including committee participation and conference attendance.
Requirements:
+ Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
+ General knowledge of vehicle maintenance and safety checks.
+ Ability to safely operate a Van, including securing wheelchair securement system.
+ Flexibility to adapt to last-minute schedule changes and willingness to be on-call.
+ Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact positively with clients and staff.
+ Ability to maintain confidentiality and represent the agency in a professional manner.
+ Physical ability to assist passengers on and off the vehicle as needed.
+ Commitment to completing all required training and safety certifications.
Salary $17.80/hour
