Trauma-Informed Youth Respite/DLS Mentor (In-Home)

**This is a Part-Time position. Total hours are variable and coordinated based on client needs and staff availability, offering a highly flexible schedule. Primary service hours align with after-school (afternoon/evenings) and weekends with expanded schedules during school breaks/summer.**

Overview

We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and skilled mentor to provide in-home support for youth with diverse needs in a trauma-informed, person-centered manner. In this role, you will help create a safe, supportive, and engaging environment that promotes stability, positive relationships, and meaningful daily routines. This position is ideal for someone who is patient, adaptable, and committed to supporting youth with dignity and respect.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-home respite and mentoring support tailored to each youth’s individual needs and goals.
• Use trauma-informed practices to foster emotional safety, trust, and consistency.
• Engage youth in age-appropriate recreational, social, and skill-building activities.
• Support healthy routines, communication, coping strategies, and positive behavior reinforcement.
• Follow care plans, safety guidelines, and family preferences while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Document services, observations, and any notable changes accurately and in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with families, supervisors, and care teams to promote continuity of support.
• Respond calmly and appropriately to challenging situations, escalating concerns when necessary.
• Maintain confidentiality and protect the privacy of the youth and family at all times.

Qualifications

• 2+ years experience working with youth, families, or individuals with behavioral, developmental, or emotional support needs.
• Understanding of trauma-informed care principles and strengths-based support strategies.
• Ability to build rapport and communicate effectively with youth and caregivers.
• Strong judgment, reliability, patience, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries and follow direction and service plans.
• Basic documentation and computer skills.
• Ability to adapt to a variety of home environments and client needs.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation may be required, depending on assignment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience providing respite, mentoring, direct support, or behavioral support services.
• Training in CPR/First Aid, crisis prevention, de-escalation, or similar support practices.
• Experience supporting youth with complex emotional, behavioral, or sensory needs.
• Familiarity with community resources and family-centered care approaches.

The schedule for this position includes flexible weekdays starting before/after school and weekend hours. This is a part-time position with potential for immediate growth. Teachers, teacher assistants, paraprofessionals, ABA therapists, behavioral technicians, someone with passion and experience in caregiving and advocating for kids or adolescents, college students going to school for nursing, speech, OT, PT, teaching, etc. would be a great fit for this position.
