Psychiatric Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• At least 1 year of previous mental health or psychiatric nursing experience
• Valid Maine Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Associate degree in Nursing or equivalent 2-year nursing education
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Current CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training prior to the start date
• Clean, eligible professional nursing licensure record
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to manage stress appropriately and make sound clinical decisions under pressure
• Excellent teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
• Flexibility to support patient care needs across a 24/7, seven-day-per-week operation
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the assignment location

Psychiatric RN Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect nursing care to patients in an emergency psychiatric and crisis behavioral health environment
• Complete comprehensive psychiatric and medical assessments and use the nursing process to guide individualized care
• Develop and periodically update individualized, interdisciplinary plans of care
• Monitor patient progress, evaluate outcomes, and revise nursing interventions as clinically indicated
• Care for patients experiencing depression, bipolar disorder, adjustment disorder, psychotic disorders, substance-related concerns, detoxification needs, and other behavioral health conditions
• Recognize and respond to patients who may also require medical evaluation or treatment
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for patients, families, and the healthcare team
• Collaborate with behavioral health professionals and other members of the interdisciplinary care team
• Identify and coordinate appropriate resources to support patient stabilization, treatment, discharge planning, and transition of care
• Document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and outcomes accurately and promptly
