Registered Nurse - Psychiatric Emergency Room

Schedule

This is a 48 hours/week position with a rotational schedule including Day, Evening, and Night shifts. On-call and callback responsibilities may be required per unit needs, including during Holidays.

Job Description

As a Registered Nurse in the Psychiatric Emergency Room, you will play a critical role in conducting intake assessments and providing comprehensive nursing care for patients experiencing emotional disturbances. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to design treatment plans and ensure the safe administration of psychotropic medications.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intake assessments through interviews with patients and families to gather case history.
• Plan and provide nursing care while making nursing diagnoses of the medical and emotional status of patients.
• Consult with psychiatrists and behavioral health staff to develop appropriate treatment plans.
• Administer psychotropic drugs and other medications while monitoring patient reactions.
• Arrange further medical attention as necessary.
• Assist clients in understanding emotional disturbances and the need for treatment.
• Maintain a safe and secure environment for both staff and patients.
• Document all patient information accurately in medical records and follow physician orders.
• Perform administrative tasks including filing, answering phones, and completing progress notes.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Current NY State License as a Registered Nurse (RN)
• BLS Certification from the American Heart Association
• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in a psychiatric setting
• Telemetry experience is a plus
