Common diagnoses include ADHD, depression, mood disorders, autism, and intellectual challenges. Patients aged 5-17 are cared for, and individuals over 18 are transitioned to adult care. The average length of stay for patients is around 3 weeks, though some may stay longer. Focus is on connecting with patients, emphasizing communication and engagement rather than physical contact. The unit has a total of 27 beds, divided between child and adolescent sides. Staffing ratios are 1 nurse to 6 patients during both day and night shifts. Charge nurses assist and oversee unit operations at all times. Physical restraints are rarely used, and there are protocols in place for emergencies. Patient Care Technicians are responsible for patient observation, conducting rounds every 15 minutes, and engaging in therapeutic activities. Weekend and holiday shifts are required as part of the role. Travelers may float to other psychiatric units as needed. Scrub colors for PCTs are eggplant.
