Job Title: Patient Care Technician Profession: Patient Care Tech Specialty: Psychiatric Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Evening Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year of psychiatric experience License: Required Certifications: BLS, PCT Certification, De-escalation Training Must-Have: Experience in psych settings, ability to perform safety checks, and work with adults in psychiatric care Description: The position involves working in a psychiatric unit with patients aged 18 and above. Common diagnoses include schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, substance abuse, and intellectual challenges. PCTs will perform vital checks, weights, assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), and provide direct observation of patient care. Employees will perform patient rounding every 15 minutes, phlebotomy with prior experience, blood glucose checks, and one-on-one support as needed. Physical restraints may be used; however, training will be provided during orientation. Teamwork is essential, with charge nurses and assistant nursing care coordinators available 24 hours to support staff. Weekend shifts will be required every other weekend and at least two to three holidays per year. Travelers may float to various units and must remain flexible with scheduling needs. Scrub color will be maroon red. The unit has 27 beds and does not support detox or rehab patients. Experience with emergency procedures and patient care is essential. Support and training will be provided to ensure staff are equipped to handle the challenges of a psychiatric unit.
