Behavioral Health Technician (Licensed Psychiatric Technician or Licensed Vocational Nurse)

Assignment Details

  • Duration: 13 Weeks

  • Start Date: July 20, 2026

  • End Date: October 18, 2026

  • Shift: Evening (3:00 PM – 11:30 PM)

  • Schedule: Five 8-hour shifts per week

  • No set weekly schedule

  • Typically every other weekend required

  • No on-call responsibilities

Minimum Requirements

Required

  • Current California Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) OR Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license

  • Minimum 1 year of psychiatric hospital experience

  • Current AHA BLS Certification

  • Experience working in an acute behavioral health setting

Preferred

  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification (training available onsite if needed)

  • Associate degree or equivalent education

  • Two years of psychiatric or behavioral health experience

Mental Health Technicians without LPT or LVN licensure are not eligible for this position.

Responsibilities

As a Behavioral Health Technician, you will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide safe, compassionate psychiatric care by:

  • Delivering direct patient care in a Psychiatric ICU

  • Monitoring patient behavior and documenting changes

  • Utilizing therapeutic communication and de-escalation techniques

  • Supporting patient admissions and discharges

  • Administering medications as ordered

  • Maintaining a safe therapeutic environment

  • Conducting patient safety rounds

  • Assisting with patient education and treatment planning

  • Collaborating with physicians, nurses, pharmacy, and interdisciplinary teams

  • Implementing crisis intervention and behavioral management strategies when necessary
