Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiac PCU position requiring 2+ years of cardiac/PCU experience and a WA or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in the Cardiovascular PCU of a 388-bed, Level 3 Trauma Center hospital
  • 34-bed acuity adaptable unit handling cardiac and vascular care, cardiac telemetry, and medical overflow patients
  • Patient population includes MI, post-op open-heart surgery (TAVR, fem-pop bypass), pacemakers, ICDs, arrhythmias, post-cardiac catheterization, carotid and thoracotomy patients transitioning from ICU, and vascular amputations
  • Patient ratio of 1:3-4
  • EPIC EMR used
  • Uses Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Philips portable and bedside monitors
  • 12-hour night shifts (1900-0730), 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • No on-call requirements, with option to pick up extra shifts
  • Travelers float first, primarily to MedSurg units and ICU for overflow coverage
  • Supported by CNAs (2-4 per shift), a free floating charge nurse, a flex nurse for admissions/discharges/transport, 24/7 hospitalist and RT coverage, 24/7 on-call cardiologist, and 2 tele techs per shift

Requirements

  • Active RN license (WA or Compact) currently in hand
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of strong cardiac or PCU experience required
  • Skilled in caring for cardiovascular patients, identifying and interpreting rhythms, and managing epidurals and chest tubes
  • Experience with cardiac drip management including nitro, heparin, Amiodarone, Cardizem, dopamine (fixed rate), and dobutamine (fixed rate)

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Orientation includes NEO plus 2 12-hour shifts of unit orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for 2 of 3 major holidays
  • RTO requests must be approved through the unit manager
  • Schedules are set in 6-week cycles and provided 2 weeks before the start of each cycle, with preferences considered and block scheduling accommodated when possible
  • Scrubs must be any solid, professional color with no graphics, logos, or designs
  • The unit values a calm, respectful, and team-oriented demeanor with strong communication skills
