Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a high-acuity Cardiac Step Down/PCU position requiring strong telemetry skills and a passing score on a proctored dysrhythmia exam.

Details

• Cardiac-focused Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in a hospital setting
• Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:4 to 1:5
• High patient acuity with frequent admissions, discharges, and procedural volume
• Patient population includes Heart Failure, A-Fib, A-Flutter, SVT, VTach, VFib, FVO, Chest Pain, HTN, Heart Transplant, Congenital Heart Disease, and LVAD patients
• Common procedures include right & left heart catheterizations, TR band management, sheath removal/management, stent placement, valve replacement, STEMI/NSTEMI care, pacemakers, ICDs, cardioversions, ablations, and groin site management
• No ventilator patients on this unit
• Night shift (NOC), 3x12s, 36 hours per week with a 30-minute meal break
• No on-call requirement
• May float to similar cardiac/PCU units but not to Cardiac Monitor Tech roles
• Epic EMR used

Requirements

• Active GA or Compact RN license required in hand
• Minimum 18 months of recent cardiac unit experience required
• Must independently interpret cardiac rhythms and pass a proctored, paper-based Dysrhythmia Exam using calipers on the first attempt (no tech assistance or remediation)
• Experience required with cardiac drips including Insulin, Milrinone, Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Heparin, Lasix, and Nitroglycerin
• Chest tube experience required
• Must rate a 4 on all cardiac skills on the skills checklist
• Heart transplant and LVAD experience preferred (training available if needed)

Additional Information

• Provide high-acuity cardiac nursing care including monitoring, medication administration, and post-procedural management
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility; local candidates not accepted
• Former Emory or Houston perm staff must be separated for 1 year before returning to the health system, or 18 months if returning to the same facility
• RTO limited to a maximum of 5 days if not falling on or near a holiday, or 3 days if falling on or near a holiday, with only one holiday request allowed
