Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (Stepdown) position in Albany, GA, requiring at least 2 years of stepdown experience and the ability to read and interpret telemetry strips.
Details
- Cardiac stepdown unit (4A/4B) in an acute care hospital setting with 44 beds, including 8 semiprivate rooms
- Unit 4A focuses on cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgery patients; Unit 4B manages smaller procedures, drips, and CHF patients
- Common diagnoses and patient types include post-op CABG, cardiovascular surgeries (fem pops, arteriograms, CEA, EVARS, AAA repairs), thoracotomy, VATS, stents, pacemakers, ablations, AICD, CHF, A-fib with RVR, and chest tubes
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5 with nurse aide support at a 1:10 ratio
- Telemetry monitoring via Philips equipment; nurses are required to read and interpret strips
- Common drips include Cardizem (titrated), amiodarone, dobutamine, dopamine (renal dose), Lasix, Bumex, heparin, Primacor, and Vasopresol
- Ventilatory support includes BiPAP, CPAP, Vapotherm, and high-flow oxygen (no full vents)
- Support services include in-house hospitalist/intensivist 24/7, PICC team, RT 24/7, and pharmacy 24/7
- EMR: MEDITECH
- 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a
- Every other weekend required
- Floating to the ICU is possible; travelers without ICU experience will be assigned stepdown-level patients only, or may be asked to assist with tasks in the ICU
- 17-week contract
Requirements
- Active RN license — Georgia (GA) or Compact license required
- Current certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of stepdown experience in an acute care setting required — no exceptions
- Experience reading and interpreting telemetry strips required
- Must reside more than 75 miles from the facility (distance measured to the address on the candidate's driver's license)
- Driver's license required for consideration
- Candidates must not have been employed by this facility within the last 12 months
Additional Information
- Unit orientation consists of 3 shifts
- Ability to pull pacer wires is preferred; orientation to the skill will be provided if needed
- Fast room turnover is common — average census is 32–38 patients, with 12–16 discharges and admissions possible in a single busy shift
- Holiday flexibility is required; must be available to work holidays and surrounding days as needed

- Dress code requirements: natural hair color, no fake or shellac nails, no facial piercings, and no visible tattoos
- Strong attendance is emphasized; candidates should be comfortable with the floating requirement
- Any requested time off must be disclosed prior to the start of the assignment
