Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry position requiring at least 2 years of cardiac unit experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

• Cardiac Telemetry unit within a Rapid Response hospital setting
• Patient ratio of 1:6 varying by acuity
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45-7:15), 36 hours per week
• Assignment lengths of 13-26 weeks accepted
• Floating required at unit discretion
• Weekend requirement of 4 shifts per 4 weeks (flexible)
• Patient population includes Atrial Fibrillation, CHF, ACS, CAD, valve disorders, endocarditis, cardiomyopathy, PVD/PAD, vasculitis, and carotid stenosis
• Cares for patients post CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, Mitral Clip, LAAO/Watchman, VATS, carotid endarterectomy, FEM-POP bypass, amputations, and other cardiac/thoracic surgeries
• Manages patients post cardiac catheterization, DCCV, and electrophysiology procedures, including pacemaker placements
• Uses specialized equipment including Doppler, bladder scanner, EKG, femoral sheaths, TR band, Fem-Stop, chest tubes, and epicardial pacing wires
• Utilizes Pyxis and EPIC systems with SBAR communication

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending acceptable at submission
• Current BLS and ACLS certification required; NIHSS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of cardiac floor experience required
• Skills required include cardiac telemetry, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown care, sheath removal, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, post-MI and pre/post cardiac cath care
• Experience managing cardiac drips required; titration experience preferred
• Experience with chest tube management (Emerson/Pleuravac), external CPAP/BiPAP, nasal cannula, and non-invasive airway management required
• Arterial line management, wound care/wound vac, and charge experience preferred
• Epic charting experience preferred
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care for cardiac and thoracic surgical and telemetry patients, including monitoring and dysrhythmia management
• May be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events or mass casualty situations
• Contract staff may be reassigned to units as needed during facility consolidation events
• Unit orientation is approximately 24 hours with weekly orientation schedule
• Navy scrubs required
• First-time travelers are not accepted unless they have more than 24 months of cardiac experience
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees (perm/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before reapplying, with facility approval required
• Up to 7 days RTO auto-approved (excluding holidays); no RTO permitted during first week of assignment
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Travel pairs allowed if placed on different units with separate transportation
• Pre-start modules (8-10 hours for acute care roles) must be completed prior to start and annually
