Description

American Traveler is hiring a Cardiac Telemetry RN for a night shift position requiring at least 2 years of cardiac floor experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Cardiac Telemetry/PCU/DOU/IMC Stepdown unit within a hospital setting
  • Patient population includes Atrial Fibrillation, CHF, ACS, CAD, valve disorders, endocarditis, cardiomyopathy, PVD/PAD, vasculitis, and carotid stenosis
  • Cares for patients post CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, Mitral Clip, LAAO/Watchman, VATS, carotid endarterectomy, fem-pop bypass, and other cardiac/thoracic/vascular surgeries
  • Ratios vary by acuity: 1:4 for surgical step down and 1:5-6 for lower acuity patients
  • Night shift, 3x12 hours (18:45-7:15), 36 hours per week
  • 13-26 week assignment options available
  • Floating required following unit rotation, though not first to float
  • Weekend requirement of 4 per 4-week schedule (flexible)
  • Uses Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR communication systems
  • Utilizes equipment including arterial lines, Doppler, bladder scanner, EKG, femoral sheaths, TR band, Fem-stop, chest tubes, and epicardial pacing wires

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license (pending acceptable at submission)
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of cardiac floor experience required
  • First-time travelers not accepted unless candidate has more than 24 months of cardiac experience
  • Skills required: sheath removal, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, post-MI care, pre/post cardiac cath care, cardiac drip management, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleuravac), external CPAP/BIPAP, nasal cannula, and non-invasive airway management
  • Preferred skills include arterial line management, wound care/wound vac, and charge nurse experience
  • EPIC charting experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Provide cardiac telemetry care including monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and post-procedural care for cardiac and thoracic surgical patients
  • May be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or disasters
  • Unit orientation is 24 hours, followed by weekly facility orientation
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Local candidates accepted at a lower rate within 50 miles of the facility
  • Former Novant Health/New Hanover PERM, PRN, or EP employees must wait 12 months before reapplying, with facility approval required
  • Current travel per diem clinicians must choose either travel or per diem status, not both
  • Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved (excluding holidays); no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • Travel pairs allowed if placed on different units and disclosed at submission
  • First-time travelers considered only with more than 24 months of cardiac experience
