Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a fast-paced Cardiac Telemetry unit requiring 2+ years of cardiac tele experience and weekend availability.

Details

  • Work on the primary cardiac and stroke unit within a hospital setting
  • Care for stable pre/post patients including pacemaker implantation, ICD, cardiac catheterization, TR bands, and uncomplicated peripheral vascular/cardiac interventions without sheaths
  • Manage patients with unstable angina, low-risk chest pain, CHF, dysrhythmias, and new CVA/TIA diagnoses
  • Run multiple cardiac drips including Cardizem, Dopamine, and Amiodarone with titration
  • Target patient ratio of 1:5-6 with potential surge to 6 patients
  • Unit turns over approximately 78-90 patients per week with team lead support for admissions and discharges
  • Unit may house COVID-positive patients using Opti-flow and BiPAP for chronic, stable use only
  • Uses telemetry, pulse ox, high-flow O2, Pyxis, and EPIC (Dimensions) for documentation
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (18:45-07:15) with weekend requirement (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
  • 36 hours per week schedule
  • Self-scheduling with leadership oversight
  • On-call requirement based on patient census
  • Floating required within or near the facility
  • Contract lengths of 13-26 weeks available

Requirements

  • Active NC or Compact RN license required (pending license accepted at submission)
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Telemetry experience required (PCU experience not required)
  • First-time travelers considered if they meet the 2-year Cardiac Tele experience requirement
  • EPIC charting experience preferred
  • Skills required include IV therapy/phlebotomy, peripheral line care, cardiac drip titration, and dysrhythmia interpretation and management
  • Experience with pacemakers, post cardiac angiogram, pre/post cardiac cath, and pre/post cardiac surgery required
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending references accepted at submission)

Additional Information

  • Provide cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and rapid response/code team support as needed
  • Unit orientation totals 36 hours; travelers must be available daily during week one for hospital orientation
  • Navy blue or white scrubs, or a mix of both, along with Novant t-shirts permitted; matching jackets required (no fleece) and no crocs with holes
  • Pre-start modules required (8-10 hours for acute care roles), completed online via Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, with annual renewal
  • Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
  • RTO of 7 days or less can be auto-approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday; additional RTO requires facility approval and no RTO is permitted during the first week of assignment
  • Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
  • Travel pairs allowed if placed on different units, have their own transportation, and are comfortable with differing schedules
  • Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before reapplying, with facility rehire approval required
  • Current travel per diem clinicians are not eligible for travel contracts and must choose one employment type
