Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN - Step Down for a high-acuity cardiac PCU unit requiring strong telemetry interpretation skills and recent cardiac experience.

Details

  • Cardiology Step Down/PCU unit at a hospital in Atlanta, GA
  • High-acuity, heavily cardiac-focused patient population including heart failure, A-Fib, A-Flutter, SVT, VTach, VFib, FVO, chest pain, HTN, heart transplant, congenital heart disease, and LVAD patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:4 to 1:5
  • Frequent admissions/discharges and significant procedural volume
  • Common procedures include right & left heart catheterizations, TR band management, sheath removal/management, stent placement, valve replacement, STEMI/NSTEMI care, pacemakers, ICDs, cardioversions, ablations, and groin site management
  • No ventilator patients on this unit
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • AM shift, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM, 3x12-hour shifts per week, 36 hours/week
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating to similar cardiac/PCU units may be required; will not float to Cardiac Monitor Tech role

Requirements

  • Active GA or Compact RN license required
  • Minimum 18 months of recent cardiac unit experience required
  • Must independently interpret cardiac rhythms and pass a proctored, paper-based Dysrhythmia Exam using calipers on the first attempt, with no tech assistance or remediation
  • Required experience with cardiac drips including Insulin, Milrinone, Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Heparin, Lasix, and Nitroglycerin
  • Chest tube experience required
  • Must rate a 4 on all cardiac skills on the skills checklist
  • Heart transplant and LVAD experience preferred, with training available if needed
  • Full SSN and DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care to high-acuity cardiac step-down patients, including managing cardiac drips, interpreting telemetry, and supporting procedural recovery
  • Radius rule of 50 miles applies; local candidates not accepted unless a facility exception is granted
  • Former Emory or Houston permanent staff must be separated for 1 year before returning to the health system, or 18 months if returning to the same facility
  • RTO is strictly limited: a maximum of 5 days if not on/near a holiday, or 3 days if on/near a holiday, with only one holiday request allowed
  • Candidates should be comfortable with high cardiac acuity, telemetry requirements, and the procedures common to this unit
