Job Summary
The ICU Cardiovascular (Intensive Care Unit) Nurse is based in an organization that provides specialized critical care for high-acuity patients. This role focuses on caring for patients recovering from cardio thoracic surgery, including those with complex conditions such as post-cardiac procedures, Impella, Ballon Pump, Artic Sun, and CRRT. The Nurse is expected to practice independently, demonstrating clinical expertise in managing multiple comorbidities and complex treatments.

• Education/Skills: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred; Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (American Heart Association only); Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required (American Heart Association only); Registered Nurse License in the state of Texas or a compact license.
• Experience: 1 year of experience in the related nursing specialty preferred; 0 years of experience required if a new graduate.
• Responsibilities include providing nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation while addressing the psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families.
• Using the appropriate protocol, the Nurse administers medications and treatments, monitors side effects and effectiveness, and documents patient care.
• The Nurse assesses learning needs and provides education to patients, their families, and caregivers.
• Schedule: Night shift from 7 PM to 7 AM, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
• Additional Information: All newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire. New hires are precepted by trained staff, and onboarding requirements include validation of competencies specific to the Critical Care Department and organizational standards. Completion of annual competency verification is required.
