Job Summary:
The ICU Cardiovascular (ICU OH) registered nurse position is based in a healthcare facility located in Morgantown, West Virginia. This role involves providing specialized critical care to patients with cardiac, vascular, and thoracic conditions, including those undergoing ECMO, LVAD, or heart transplants. The nurse will deliver patient care during night shifts, which are 12 hours long, with a minimum of 36 hours per week, supporting a busy ICU unit.
Job Details:
- Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, weekends, and holidays as scheduled. Minimal weekend schedule requirement includes 3 weekend days regardless of shift, with one Friday and one Monday; weekenders are exempt from Monday.
- Required Qualifications: ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification, BLS (Basic Life Support) certification; minimum of 2 years of critical care experience in an ICU, with experience in CVICU setting preferred. Valid license to practice as an RN and willingness to wait for license approval.
- Preferred Qualifications: CC RN (Critical Care Registered Nurse) certification.
- Experience or Skills Needed: Prior experience in a cardiovascular ICU with familiarity in managing patients on critical care drips including inotropes and sedatives; ability to interpret ECG strips and recognize rhythm changes; experience with ECMO, LVAD, and heart transplant patients is highly desirable.
- Responsibilities: Provide direct patient care, monitor critical vitals, titrate drips such as inotropes and sedatives, document in EPIC electronic medical record system, and collaborate with intensivists, advanced practice providers, charge nurses, and support staff.
- Additional Information: The unit maintains a ratio of 1 nurse to 2 or 1 patient to 1 in critical situations, with a total of 28 beds. The team includes a charge nurse, two house supervisors, hospitalist or intensivist providers available 24/7, and telemonitor techs. The unit implements a specific dress code of royal blue scrubs. Orientation is provided over one week, and the unit adheres to a trauma level designation with acute care setting operations.
