Job Title: Cardiac Sonographer 1 Profession: Cardiac Sonographer Specialty: Cardiac Sonographer Duration: 13 weeks Shift: AM Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: 3-5 years experience at a level 1 facility License: RDCS or RCST Certifications: BLS (AHA Only) Must-Have: - Knowledge and ability to apply complex sonographic principles, instrumentation, and techniques. - Knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology. - Ability to explain the purpose of the echocardiographic examination and answer patients' questions. - Knowledge of approved clinical protocols for cardiovascular ultrasound examinations. - Knowledge of proper infection control procedures. - Knowledge of relevant laws regarding patient confidentiality and privacy. - Ability to interact and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with healthcare providers. - Knowledge of medical terminology. - Skilled utilization of computers and medical equipment. Description: The Cardiac Sonographer 1 performs basic to intermediate cardiac ultrasound services and procedures for adult patients. These services include transthoracic, transesophageal, and stress echocardiograms, which are used to diagnose and assess cardiac abnormalities. General duties include preparing equipment, prepping patients, and explaining procedures. The sonographer reviews images, reports findings, and analyzes patient clinical history to identify the purpose of the examination. They frame the clinical question the examination is intended to answer and expand the examination as necessary to address these questions. Essential functions include: Performing basic to advanced cardiac ultrasound procedures utilizing a variety of equipment and techniques. Making necessary measurements for interpretation to obtain accurate, high-quality results. Identifying and defining cardiac abnormalities and extending the examination scope as appropriate. Assisting physicians in procedure rooms and operating rooms by performing echocardiograph studies. Assisting in transesophageal studies and calculating appropriate measurements. Preparing patients for procedures and obtaining clinical history, including pertinent laboratory data. Recording statistics and performing daily maintenance of the Echocardiography Lab and its equipment. Acting as a resource to staff and students regarding equipment and techniques. Working closely with quality coordinators to ensure adherence to quality processes and protocols. Implementing protocols as new technology evolves and ensuring standards are maintained.
