Job Title: Technician Profession: Technician Specialty: Cardiovascular Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 8 hours Hours per Shift: 8 hours per day, 5 days per week Experience: Minimum years of experience required License: N/A Certifications: N/A Must-Have: Excellent organizational skills, RCIS preferred Description: Monitors patient blood pressures and informs physician of any changes from baseline. Monitors the position of the catheter in the heart by interpreting intracardiac pressures. Records pressures in all chambers as requested by the physician. Maintains a complete record of all events occurring during a procedure using the cardiac cath lab computer. Responsible for calibrating and operating the equipment during a procedure such as A-Vox, cardiac output, and ACT. Informs physician and monitoring CVT of results. Supplies physician with equipment during procedures such as catheters, wires, balloons, and stents. Responsible for all data analysis and processing through the computer, and printing all appropriate information. Sets up and calibrates the intra-aortic balloon pump, sets initial timing, and fine-tunes the timing with the physician once the balloon is in place. Monitors the balloon pump during the procedure and stays with the patient until transferred to appropriate care units. Assists in emergency situations by performing resuscitation measures, including operating the defibrillator, performing artificial respiration, external pacing, and suctioning patients. Replenishes supplies in the lab as necessary and performs preventative maintenance on equipment, utilizing an understanding of mechanical workings. Notifies supervisor of any serious malfunctions and equipment shortages. Responsible for learning and applying new technology and/or procedures as they are introduced in the cardiac cath lab, such as flow wire, ultrasound, and rotablator. Operates power injector for large volume dye contrast injections. Assists in cardiac catheterizations by setting up, in a sterile field, equipment and instruments. Sets up rooms for each patient by entering their name, medical record number, and appropriate information into the system. Assists the nursing staff by transporting patients from one area to another.
