Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Cath Lab Prep/Recovery position requiring at least 2 years of Critical Care, PACU, or CCU experience and a NC or compact RN license.

Details

  • >post following Cath/Vascular/EP procedures in a Prep/Recovery unit within a Level III Trauma Center
  • 12-bed unit seeing 17-20 patients daily, typically with the same nurse providing continuity of care pre and post procedure
  • Patient population includes R and L Heart Cath, structural heart cases, TAVR, Watchman, vascular procedures, EP devices and ablations, and possible carotid access procedures
  • Patients are typically under moderate sedation and more alert than standard PACU cases
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:3, though TAVR cases may be 1:2
  • Day shift schedule of 7am-3pm, Monday through Friday, though some staff work 10-hour shifts
  • No weekend rotation or on-call requirements
  • Unit closed on major holidays
  • Possible float assignments to EP and procedural areas
  • Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Philips monitors
  • Unit-specific equipment includes EKG, iSTAT, and glucometers

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of Critical Care, PACU, or CCU experience required
  • Comfortable performing neurovascular checks, including Doppler use
  • Experience managing IV drips, most commonly nitro and heparin, with occasional pressors
  • Site management experience for femoral or radial access, including TR band or groin device compression
  • Post-anesthesia and blood pressure management experience
  • Exposure to swan-ganz catheters, temporary pacing wires, or A-lines preferred but not required
  • No ventilator experience required; rare exposure to BiPap
  • EKG, glucometer, and iSTAT checkoffs completed during orientation
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum one professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide pre- and post-procedure care for cardiac catheterization, vascular, and EP patients
  • Work alongside a charge nurse who occasionally takes patients and assists with cardioversions
  • Support from a dedicated CNA and access to 24/7 respiratory therapy and anesthesia coverage
  • APP and NP coverage available 6:30am-7pm with MDs consistently present on the unit
  • Orientation includes NEO plus 1-2 precepted shifts
  • Scrubs provided (green) and free designated parking available
  • Positive team culture with frequent positive feedback from travelers and many repeat assignments
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • Previous employees must be separated from any Advocate Health Southeast facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position before being eligible for a travel assignment
  • All requested time off must be approved by the manager
