Job Title: Cardiac Cath Specialist Profession: Clinical-Allied Specialty: Cardiac Catheterization Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 40 Experience: Greater than 2 years in a large hospital cardiac cath lab providing STEMI care and advanced cardiac procedures License: One of the following is required: - Graduation from a Radiologic Science program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health and Accreditation - Graduation from a special procedures program - Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing - Completion of a course training in cardiac catheterization Certifications: One of the following is required: - Certified in Clienttion Therapy or Radiology through ARRT - Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification through CCI Must-Have: Cath Lab experience Description: Assists physicians with obtaining digital radiographic images of the heart, peripheral vessels, and any other required structures. Appropriately controls radiographic equipment to acquire quality images. Pans the radiographic table so that the physician visualizes desired structures. Sets x-ray acquisition parameters for cardiac and peripheral imaging to provide quality results. Practices radiation safety by utilizing distance and appropriate protective attire. Demonstrates knowledge of a variety of procedures and techniques to meet the comprehensive needs of patients. Anticipates patient and physician needs, alerts physician to changes in patient condition, and contributes to the plan in an organized manner. Demonstrates expert knowledge in the technical areas of hemodynamics, diagnostic, interventional, and peripheral procedures including devices and protocols. Performs daily room preparations and conducts daily quality checks. Prepares procedure room and equipment for daily use and each procedure. Ensures enough stock on hand to accommodate routine daily case volumes. Conducts in-room inventory and supply management. Stores all patient care products according to regulations. Documents data necessary for patient records and reporting. Verifies data entry on all systems and ensures patient charges are accurate. Documents complications and variances for continuous quality improvement. Delivers pre-, during, and post-procedure patient care, ensuring accurate documentation. Prepares scrub table and preps patients for procedures while maintaining sterile techniques. Prepares lines and devices for administration of injectable fluids. Injects drugs under the direct supervision of a physician and inserts IVs. Operates, inspects, troubleshoots, and performs routine maintenance for various cardiac catheterization lab equipment. Effectively operates all devices utilized in cardiac catheterization procedures. Initiates maintenance or service on malfunctioning equipment. May perform lead worker responsibilities such as training and educating staff and assigning work to specialists and/or staff. Works in an organized and timely manner by prioritizing tasks to ensure efficient patient care. Meets challenges of case volumes and patient care issues to ensure optimal outcomes. Ensures quality and accuracy of reported laboratory data. Reports variances to the physician and ensures that variances have been addressed. Ensures all recorded data is accurate and makes necessary corrections.
