Echo Sonographer - MACC

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Under the supervision of the Echo Supervisor and following established technical standards, provides ultrasound images of the heart and related structures of patients of all ages for physician interpretation.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Obtains pertinent clinical history and data, positions patient and selects ultrasonic technique to acquire echocardiogram of diagnostic quality.
  • Performs 2-D, M-mode, Pulse/Continuous Wave Color Doppler.
  • Performs routine measurements and necessary hemodynamic calculations relating to pathology.
  • Capable of writing preliminary interpretation.
  • Performs emergency studies as required.
  • Maintains echo lab records, including data log book and patient charges.
  • Participates in the activities required to maintain echocardiography changes and updates.
  • Fulfills the educational requirements of the clinic and all accreditation and licensing agencies governing the delivery of care. This includes, but is not limited to, current CPR certification and attendance at mandatory office in-services.
  • Ensures equipment and room have been cleaned and room restocked after each patient and at the end of the day.
  • Gathers and assesses information relative to the patient s age-specific needs.
  • Provides care needed to achieve the desired clinical outcomes.
  • Understand and modifies therapeutic approach in response to the patient s non-verbak reactions to therapy, psychosocial needs, physical limitations, and any other age or illness specific issues.
  • Follows Standard Echo Protocol of the Lab.
  • Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers in a manner that reflects MACC s commitment to CARES: compassion, accountability, respect, excellence and service.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

    Ability to read, write and communicate in English.

    Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) from ARDMS or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).

    Registry required, including 946 hours (6 months) of advanced training in Cardiac Ultrasound.

    Previous experience in Echocardiography required.

    High degree of technical aptitude.

    Capable of working independently.

    Good communication skills.

    Ability to work under pressure.

    Tactful, compassionate, consistent, highly dependable.
