Description:
Responsible for the safe operation of fluoroscopic and radiographic equipment in the Cath Lab.
Coordinates care with physicians and other departments.
Performs various roles for adult and geriatric cardiac catheterization procedures, including computer operator, scrub assistant, second circulator, and recovery technician.
Daily Responsibilities:
Assists with assessment and implementation of care for patients by recognizing drugs and lab values that may contraindicate Cath procedures.
Documents appropriate information in the medical record, including patient demographics and procedural information.
Continuously monitors hemodynamic data and relays information to appropriate personnel.
Assists scrub personnel with acquisition of needed equipment and sets up equipment for procedures while maintaining sterile technique.
Properly disposes of biohazardous materials and contaminated equipment.
Calculates valve areas and shunts accurately.
Assists in the management of emergency situations by coordinating emergency transfers.
Assists with access and administration of medications both on and off the sterile field.
Ensures all medications/solutions are labeled on and off the sterile field.
Demonstrates proficiency in Cath Lab procedures during emergencies.
Safety Responsibilities:
Monitors and assesses radiation and safety in accordance with practice guidelines.
Adheres to radiation protection guidelines as they apply to personnel and patients.
Communication Responsibilities:
Recognizes initial alterations in patient body systems, such as vital signs and overt physical signs.
Communicates observations to appropriate members of the health care team.
Other Duties:
Performs other duties as assigned.
Call is required to cover the Cath Lab and assist with related procedures.
Familiarity with pacemaker insertions, balloon pump insertions, and preparation for related tasks is preferred.
ARRT certification is a hard requirement; RCIS certification alone is not sufficient.
Must be within 30 minutes of the facility when on call.
